Volunteers are the lifeblood of the House of Mercy, providing support to our moms, love and care to their children, and endless help to our staff. At times the needs seem never-ending, but because of our volunteers, we are able to continue to fulfill our mission. We need volunteers in various capacities, for special projects or on an ongoing basis. Whatever time you give to the House of Mercy is a gift and blessing. To inquire further or to sign up to be a House of Mercy volunteer, call Roberta at (615)385-7686 or email: HOMJV@comcast.net
Mentoring The constancy and attention of a supportive friend makes a difference in the lives of our residents. Volunteering as a mentor is an ongoing relationship, requiring a minimum of two visits per month. Our moms love special outings like lunch or shopping, and appreciate the presence, example and friendship of an encouraging woman in their lives.
Tutoring If you have the heart of a teacher, we have opportunities for you to help our moms. In the summer months and year-round, we need volunteers to help specifically with math and computer skills. Your patient teaching could be just the help a mom needs to complete her GED.
Babysitting Giving our moms a break helps us all out tremendously. House of Mercy kids love having new friends to play with, and will eat up special attention! We need baby and kid sitters at Catherine’s House for sessions on Mondays: 7:30 – 9:30 p.m., Wednesdays: 6 – 8:00 p.m, and occasional other times. We ask for a commitment of at least two or three sessions.
Handy Man or Handy Ma’am If you have a knack for fixin’ things, it seems we always have something to fix! We now have a house, a shed, a cottage, and grounds to maintain. The practical assistance of handy folks allows us to focus on our mission of healing one family at a time. We would love longer-term volunteers who can be available “on call” as needs arise, occasionally.
Office Assistance Because our staff is limited to two full-time and two part-time employees, we rely on faithful, organizationally-gifted volunteers to keep the details of our programs functioning effectively. People with computer and web skills are a HUGE help to us. We have need for volunteers on a project-by-project or ongoing basis. We are currently seeking a Tech Coordinator Volunteer.
Party Planning Nashville is home to many hosts and hostesses blessed with Southern hospitality. At the House of Mercy, our moms are regularly celebrating new accomplishments, special occasions, births and more. Share your gift of hospitality and help make our families feel special by joining our Party Planning team. We also have opportunities to help with larger events -- our annual fundraisers.
Transportation On occasion, we need assistance with “chauffeuring” our moms and kids to doctor’s appointments, work, school, meetings, and when new moms move in. If you have a comfortable car and would like to offer this practical assistance, it is an “on-call” volunteer assignment.
