Catherine's House became home in 2003 from our original location when generous friends and board members of the House of Mercy purchased and renovated it. We constructed Kitty's Cottage, a small building in the back yard, to give our mothers a private place for therapy sessions. Currently, we house our business offices in Catherine's House. Our goal is to expand the House of Mercy campus to allow us to accept more famlies into our program and manage it more efficiently.
Healing begins with a safe, welcoming, nurturing home. The House of Mercy residence is a community that includes bedrooms, kitchen, dining room (shown below at a Tuesday House dinner/meeting), laundry room, living room, bathrooms and an outdoor serenity garden and playground. All spaces are shared giving residents common responsibility for cooking meals and cleaning. Our philosophy encourages and teaches mothers to live together with their chidlren while developing healthy communication and problem solving skills with other women and children. Our supportive staff helps facilitate experiences of the spirit of love and forgiveness.
The Serenity Garden, located in the back yard next to Kitty's Cottage, is an inviting place to enjoy the out-of-doors, read, study/review 12-step work, meditate and appreciate the beauty of trees, water fountain, and flowers. The Garden was designed and created by many volunteers with financial and volunteer help from Hospital Corporation of America and other private donors.
